The Warmest Summer
Author Note
Has someone ever looked you in the eyes and told you they don't love you as you love them? Though they ensure your attention stays near as if it’s their birth right.
I remember waiting years desiring a life with someone who wanted to experience what life was like without me, but always made it back to bed with me.
What about the lover who looked deep in your eyes, though to your soul, and tells you how much they love you so... followed up with how they're in love with someone else.
How do I process that? Are these circumstances the measurements of my worth to all of you?
Maybe it's my fault that theirs multiple of you – but what is love if I am not loved back? Maybe searching in the multiples has made it difficult for love to be palpable.

Your summer starts high, school is out and everyone’s outside. You just finished one of your most challenging years, but you're in a better place than you've ever been before. You hold your head higher when walking, and the words you speak comes with the upmost confidence. Without school you can work and focus on the things you really care about. You meet new people, and go places you’ve never gone. You find new idols while letting go of old rivals.
You've been planning out your whole summer since the start – it’s time to work. With great anticipation on your first day, you walk in confident. Every corner you turn attempting to find your supervisors office you see faces and hear names that’s been in headlines, on magazine covers, newspapers, and news clips. You find the office, inside is your supervisor whom you check in with about the responsibilities to come, and more importantly the resources available to you.
The second person you meet, also the other person in your supervisors office, is the most beautiful soul you will grow to know. This soul will come to hold a story, written by the two of you, one made from wholesome memories and a confusing pain. A story where the spaces between sentences feel like heartbreaking silence.
One of the first things you did upon meeting her that day was compliment her hair. It was the most beautiful sight as each strand held great strength and fluidity as she walked with an arrogant type of pride. It was like a crown she wore, maintained with the upmost care and patience; twas a symbol of her ever-growing, blooming personality. It seemed like the second you saw her, you -

You don't remember who said it first, though it never mattered because it always felt present, as if, it was the very foundation that built this story. It was something so amazingly sound that you still can't distinguish the beginning from the present, like your soul had always been there, waiting for your body to catch up.
Feelings
Have you ever experienced it? The romantic kind that forces you to fear death – as this experience could be the only evil to destroy the heaven built on earth. Or, the kind that made you feel alive, so alive you could never fear death – as it would be a beautiful end to a story that allowed you the experience's of life.
How do you explain meeting another wandering soul, whom you create a bond with, separate from the feelings of family or a friend.
Summer often comes with a story. One that can make you feel something so great that it could have never been imagined, with the potential of creating an even greater fear towards that feeling, so great you'll fear ever feeling it again.

Time...
What role does time play between two people? Some say nothing, while others understand it as everything. When you spend hours with someone that feels like minutes, and months that you remember as years, what role does time play then?
That summer you spent with her felt like forever, but, the days, the days... It still feels as though there were too few spent with her. Thinking about your summer spent together, it's hard to give clear accounts of specific memories with her. All you can remember are feelings by this point in time. Spending so much time trying to forget those memories rather than understand what they meant.

and Affection
You were in the most decorated position of your life, with the influence and resources to make your biggest dreams come true. Your work came first, you spent everyday in your office... brainstorming, creating, and networking; She spent every moment by your side... helping, reassuring, and refining your ideas. She helped you foster your most sacred creations... lending you her time, mind, and soul as a boat through troubled waters of your fear and doubt.
When the office got quiet for the night she often took you home. Sometimes treating you to a meal, always treating you to her stories and inquiries. You were quiet when she spoke, rarely providing much of anything to help the conversations. You would always apologize, and she would always just say, "I don't need anything else."
Many times you wouldn't get home until hours after sunset. As you grew to know her, you grew to know the beauty of the world. She took you places you've never been, and forced you to try ideas you had called foolish once before.
She had constant thoughts about who you were outside of your work, thoughts you hadn't thought about yet. She asked you so many questions that you had very little answers for. Nonetheless, you told each other everything you both possibly could about one another, even the stories that made your lips quiver and your eyes water.

Naturally
Naturally you begin to anticipate your time together every morning as you get ready. Naturally you begin to see your day going slower when she doesn't show up to work. Naturally everything you produced, every idea that came to reality, had a piece of her intertwined within it. Naturally you both could only ever be friends, as circumstances permits it.
Naturally she meant much more to you than a story could ever tell.

Coldest Summer
You knew this day would come since the day you met her. Your time at work is over. Summer is coming to end, and you spend one last evening with her. You don't remember what you both did that night before she left. Only what she said and what you didn't say. A couple hours that made you feel something great for many months.
You somewhat feared this day, somehow more than you've ever feared death, not knowing if this day would be the last of her you see. You never actually knew how she felt about you. In your many conversations, it never came up once, you made sure of it. There was a certain risk you felt when thinking about her feelings towards you, so you reluctantly, stupidly and foolishly never asked.
There were some things she wanted to tell you before she left, more specifically two things. You still wonder why she never said anything earlier, maybe things would have played out differently. She told you that you made her summer amazing, and that everyday was new, exciting, and care free. She further gave you deep thanks for being an ear for her, "forever problems". She hugged you... hugged you with such a delicate warmth as she tells you that she had loved you unlike anything before. And she embraced you as she says, "you will be a star no matter what you choose to do."
You never actually got around to believing her.
"I love you too, more than you'll ever know."
This was a warmth unlike anything summer's sun has ever shown you before, and unlike anything you will see there after. Part of you can't see a life where you never met her and part of you wishes you had a life where you never met her.
She holds your hands, looks deep in your eyes and ask you a series of things. Firstly, please never stop talking to her, and most importantly, please, never stop loving her. You promised, and you swore to always reach out, and to maintain a love she could feel from a thousand miles away. You looked her in her eyes and you promised. You fucking promised.
And the last thing she told you...
Well first, after an entire summer of friendship. She nervously, but patiently and even more so passionately, kissed you delicately. For a short moment, it felt like everything, and shortly after it would feel like nothing. The most beautiful kiss that birthed the most confusing feelings. The experience was so great it felt like you were having your first, and ruined so terribly you wished it could be your last. You wanted her to mean everything, you wanted to give her everything. You dedicated your work to her. She was apart of the very foundation that made you who you were. You told her you would love her no matter what, and that you would never love anyone as greatly as you loved her. You promised her. You fucking promised her, and the last thing she told you...
"I love someone else, he asked me to be his girlfriend...
...I'm gonna say yes."
- I hope you enjoyed,
M.S,
One Love.
